Captain Larry McGuire: Tampa Offshore
On Show Me the Fish Charters fishing out of my custom 31 ft Morgan Sportfisherman operating out of the Bradenton Beach Marina, we are encountering great action on large Red Grouper, scamp, Greater Amberjack, Mangrove Snapper, Yellowtail and Lane Snappers, Porgy, Banded Rudderfish, big Barracudas, and Sharks.
Best action on the calmer days is out past 100 ft. On the windy days fish closer in around 40 to 50 ft and there has been a lot of kingfish, mackerel, flounder,a variety of reef fish plus catch and release of lots gag grouper and enormous amount of smaller red grouper. Catching all day long until it hurts. With gag grouper out of season all is not lost there are still plenty of fish to fill the cooler for the meat man, the guys that want the meat trips. On the amberjacks large live baits have been working the best with bluerunners my favorite and with the red grouper we usually start out with squid and sardines [stink baits] for the party starters and then drop down some live pinfish for the firetucks (huge red grouper). Always have your chum block deployed and flatlines out with a sardine for a king, cobia or blackfin tuna.
The king mackeral should be around until it gets real cold then they head south for the winter. But if we have a warm winter we could have smoking kingfish frenzy in January. Fishing offshore every trip is different and anything can happen. I am always amazed at what we get into out there.
This weekends weather looks perfect so now is the time to come on out and get ya some. only get a few nice days a week. Be ready for your own fall festival and come on out and get you some.
Capt. Larry McGuire
About the Captain: Captain Larry McGuire is a native Floridian and has lived in Manatee County his whole life. He comes from a family of hard core fisherman. He started fishing at the early age of three, growing up fishing in the Tampa Bay, Manatee River, and on the flats in those areas. He first liked fishing for snook inshore in his younger years. Then later in life decided that off shore fishing was his real passion. He got hooked on fishing for Grouper, Snapper, and Amberjack. The extreme catches that really enticed him was catching Cobia, Kingfish, Permit, Black fin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Sharks, Tarpon, and even the occasional Sailfish. He fishes offshore from Tampa Bay to the Florida Keys. Thinking like the fish, having the instinct of what is going on, knowing where the fish are, and how they are biting at that time of year is the key to a successful Charter captain
Captain Larry is on the water constantly and says it is a must to try to the best of our ability to continually improve fishing techniques. "When fishing is tough, that is when I fish the best, making it happen for all my clients. I will make it happen when there seems to be no way! I love to help someone who is having difficulties, so that nobody out fishes someone else. I give specific instruction, all they have to do is take the information and use it, then they Show Me The Fish!"
Captain Larry takes out lots of families, women and children are very welcome, he helps the children, ladies, and men get their catch! If you are the type who wants to battle the biggest of the fish caught, he will get you on them. The captain is an avid photographer and sends catches to multiple media outlets. This means you could possibly get your fish, and picture in one of them. "If you don't have a picture of it - it must never have happened," says Larry.
Captain Larry has been a guest on the Reel Animal Fishing TV Show, with an outstanding Grouper catch with Captain Billy and Mike. They had all of the film footage for the show in a mere hour. His best fish story was the catch of an eight foot, three hundred pound Blue Marlin he caught 28 miles offshore of Anna Maria Island in 110 ft of water. With a leader touch using a live Bonita as bait that was caught on tape with the Game Fish Challenge TV show. That was an absolute a miracle, especially on a TV show; nobody would have believed it unless it was live on film, which it is!
The captain writes weekly fishing reports for the Bradenton Herald, The Islander, The Anna Maria Sun, Saltwater Angler magazine, Rods and Guns magazine, Florida Outdoor Adventures, and FishOrShutUp.com. Captain Larry also calls in weekly to local radio shows, Reel Animals, Florida Sportsman, ANA banana fishing show telling them what's hot and what's not and shares his fishing tips and secrets.
Larry has the eagerness to help everyone to catch fish. He even has fishing seminars and clinics for boaters! He is affiliated with Boater's World, West Marine, Turner Marine, Florida Sportsman, St Pete Boat Show and many more.
"Fishing is my heritage, in my blood, I can't help it, and it's beyond my control! I remember fishing with my Grandma (yes that's correct, my Grandma) when I was four years old, she fished from sun up to sun down, at that age I did not have the kind of patience to endure. These days I have plenty of perseverance," says Captain McGuire.
Captain Larry has a reputation of being a patient, enthusiastic, hard working guide. He is also very extreme, intense and a hardcore fisherman. He considers Grouper fishing a full contact sport. He will go above and beyond to Show YOU The Fish!!!!!
